On navigating resistance…
Dear One,
Create space for nurturing and tending to what you want to create. Not just with the convenient times, but carve out space that actually works for you. What are you filling your time with? Are you filling your time with what’s important to you? [A teacher of mine once shared the piece of awareness that what you spend time on ARE your priorities. So if you’re spending 2 hours/day on social media, that is 2 hours worth of importance to you. Without judgement we can check in with ourselves to make sure this lines up with what is actually important to us.]
There are so many distractions that bleed into this time if you aren’t holding it sacred—like you would a coffee date with a friend or a business meeting. Mostly likely you wouldn’t check your email or the weather during those times. Let go of judgement and bring curiosity to how you’re holding space to tend to what you want to create. [In my case, this is my business, but for you, it might be a house project, business idea, creative endeavor].
If you’re procrastinating or interrupting your own sacred relationship with what you’re creating, get curious about what else is blocking you? What are you afraid of? Change? The unknown? [You might find yourself looking outside yourself for answers. Or waiting until things are perfect. When we meet resistance, it is often a sign that change is happening or wants to happen. According to The Moon Deck written by Aarona Lea and illustrated by Andrea Keh, ‘if you’ve hit a wall of resistance, know that this is not the time to quit. This is a powerful moment that is asking you to grow. Breathe, relax, and remain centered; the other side is right there. Allow yourself to expand into possibility, even if there are a few growing pains along the way.”]
You have everything you need. And you’re never creating alone. Commit to sitting down with pen and paper and tending to what you want to grow daily. [Just like you would tend to a garden]. Let it be a playful exploration versus heave and perfect and pressure-filled. Creating is about our own growth process along with way versus about creating a specific outcome. Your essence and energy WILL shine through whatever you put out there in the world.
